WINTER FASHION IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA

When thinking about fashion trends during the winter seasons, California is not the first state that would come up.  However, due to the decrease in temperatures during this season over the past couple of years, California is now in the running when it comes to top trends.  This year, simple styles have become more popular and have been spiced up with simple accessories such as feather earrings or a nice colorful scarf.  Basic colors are used most often, usually with a brightly colored accessory to make the outfit not only stand out but also come together in a whole new way.  Here are some of the latest trends that have become popular in northern California.

Look One:

Leggings are very in this season, especially ones likethese made by American Apparel which come in all sorts of colors and patterns.  Topped with a loose tee like this one along with another recently popular trend, the naval influenced vest/jacket, this is a simple look that can be seen worn to any type of activity.  Finish the look off with a simple patterned scarf like this oneand a cute pair of short black heeled boots, and you’re ready to take on the city.

FROM THE SAND TO THE STREET – BEACH COVER-UPS

It’s just about Summer for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere and if we’re lucky enough this means long days at the beach for the next few months. It’s always tricky to find the perfect balance in an outfit that you can wear both on the sand, as well as walking around the street without feeling over-exposed, but INSPIRER has some basic beach looks that anyone can put together with ease to keep you cool (but covered)!

A floral print bustier and skirted bikini is a super feminine option for swimwear which can be teamed with a plain kaftan and thongs for a relaxed, beach chic outfit.  A kaftan is a staple beach cover-up (especially in whites or neutrals) because it’s simple, stylish and 100% comfortable!

MAN'S WORLD

In the past we have seen men's clothing take on a new life draped across beautiful woman's bodies the world over. From over sized dad shirts to the more recently popular boyfriend jean, this season we are stealing another masculine fashion staple, the mannish shoe.

The mannish shoe has been stomped all over the catwalks at the Autumn/Winter fashion shows earlier in the year, with Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Daks all leading the way with this daring trend showing off some of the best examples of loafers and brogue shoes. So it's time to say goodbye to those 6 inch platforms and hello comfy masculine inspired flats.

Don't be put off by thinking you'll be walking around the streets looking like you've stolen your dads best shoes, these beautifully designed pieces feature some of the best examples of intricate leather design, with cute cut out patterning and fringing detailing and some pairs also explore soft patterned suede in luxurious colours. Whether your feeling daring this Autumn/Winter season or want to go for a more traditional mannish shoe, there really is something for everyone. These are a great example of some of the more daring pairs; team with a simple black tea dress so the shoe design really makes a statement.

ICELAND WONDERLAND

They're everywhere you look on the highstreet and the catwalk, they're practical and reasonably priced and come in such a wide variety you could easily collect enough for every day of the week. Make room (you'll need it) for Icelandic jumpers and cardigans.

Last winter I was listening to a lot of Sigur Ros, which lead me to google Icelandic jumpers (or as they call them lopapeysa), to wear while listening to Sigur Ros, because that's not weird or pathetic. I even fancied moving to Iceland, where I'd have to wear these jumpers or literally risk death. So this was enough of an excuse to get my lopapeysa ordered. I was a little shocked at the price, I don't know what I expected, but apparently they are water proof and are actually warm enough to wear outside on their own, in Iceland. Perhaps a bit much for our British winters then.

This obsession was resolved cheaply a week or so later when I discovered a neat lambswool jumper in H&M, which I wore to death. It wasn't incredibly warm, but it served well in the layers party. This year, you can't go in any clothing store without an abundant stock of Fairisle, which isn't absolutely amazing, finally, a WARM fashion statement!
