ALBUM REVIEW: THE TOWER AND THE FOOL "XIII"

When Alex Correia and Chris Rosenquest were going through some drastic and uncontrollable changes in their life they decide the best way to cope was to write music together. Originating from Providence, RI The Tower And The Fool initially started as a songwriting project between them, when the recording of their self-titled EP drew nearer they decided they should add additional musicians to fill out the recorded songs. That’s where drummer Mike Poorman (ex-Hot Rod Circuit), Jon Tucker on bass, Zac Clark on keys, and Chris Capaldi on lead and slide guitars come in, in October 2010 they released their first album. After everything was said and done, Correia and Rosenquest decided to permanently add the additional line up, making The Tower and The Fool a complete band. Being signed only back in July of this year; this is The Tower And The Fool’s debut EP on Run For Cover Records. The release will be limited to 7″ vinyl and digital formats.

This band is perfect for this time of year when you want to listen to heavy raw vocals and exceptional/honest lyrics. The first track off this EP is proof of that, Die Alone is outstanding at pulling what everyone is afraid of into a song that is so hard not to fall in love with.  These truth filled/ bold lyrics are hard to come by in this day and age, “Cause even I can count how many times a pretty little girl has helped me die/ the only one I still know/ the only one that mattered most/ I tattooed her name right on my arm/ Inside a banner wrapped around a rose/ and now I’m praying to god that her love keeps me afloat/ Cause man I don’t want to die alone.”

The Second song, NYC is quieter but no less honest, with imaginative lyrics like these it’s easy to pretend that you’re in NYC soaked in all the neon lights, “But now my love is lost/ it’s lost somewhere and strung out in the streets/ its covered by all the neon signs from down in Brooklyn, out to Queens/My heart is dead in New York City/ she packed it with bottles and the pictures and the spoonfuls of truth”

Even though it’s unclear as to what the future holds, this is a band that keeps you wanting more and I’m sure that whatever lies ahead of them is going to be full of remarkable things.
