FARMER CHIC

I defiantly think it’s that time for a new autumn staple coat and there are some gorgeous pieces to choose from on the British high street this autumn, it’s hard to decide which trend you want to try out first!

Right now I love these ‘Barbour’ style coats, for both men and woman.

Even though the weather has decided to not stop raining right now and most of these styles don’t have the all essential hood, it is a perfect excuse to buy a cute umbrella to complete this vintage British country side look. Whether you buy the coat brand new or find a real vintage piece they are perfect matched with cute tan boots or brogues.

It’s important to keep this look very simple and keep the coat as the main feature. This look is meant to look minimalistic and thrown together, done right it’s highly fashionable and a perfect autumn look. Going for a simple coat colour such as the traditional Barbour jackets in a dark green or navy means you need to keep the rest of your outfit within this pallet, simple and vintage; think farmer chic.

Wearing a cream coloured knitted jumper is in keeping with the traditional vintage British country side look you want to achieve; there are so many beautiful examples of this such as the one I’ve picked out from New Look. The classic knot detailing on the front matched with the slightly distressed feel of the rest of the jumper gives a new take on this classic look.

As the coat is quite a masculine shape, I think it’s important to keep the rest of the outfit quite feminine. Matching your gorgeous knitted jumper with a textured skirt will give your look a 21st century feminine twist.  With this British vintage country side look I think either a woollen textured skirt or the very in leather look skirt in tan or black will give this look a real catwalk feel.

To finish of the look and to again add more femininity to it, knee high socks are perfect. They’re no longer just for school kids, knee high socks are big this autumn and can be wore in many different ways for both day and night , they are the new tight of this season with stars like Taylor Momsen and Alexa Chung at the front of the knee high socks army.

The accessories are equally as important as the coat in this look, it’s your chance to put your own little fashion stamp on the look. Keep it simple and in keeping with the vintage/country side feel, brogues have made a massive come back this season and are a traditional shoe staple in the fashion world. The gorgeous pair I picked out from ASOS are perfect for this look. If you’re feeling a little more daring there are plenty of styles out there to choose from, patterned panelling is being donned by celeb’s right now, with leopard print and bold black and white so keep a fashion eye open for this trend.

Match the brogues with a similar coloured bag in a traditional style, like this bag from New Look which is similar to Mulberry’s ‘Alexa’ bag at a smidgen of the price, it couldn't be more perfect.
