THE SEASONAL ROMP - INSPIRATION

A "Romper-Suit," or Romper (Playsuit) is a "one-piece garment worn by children and sometimes women. Somewhat similar to a coverall, it is loose fitting and usually has shorter legs that may be gathered at the end. Puffed pants are particularly associated with rompers. Rompers usually are meant as a combination of shorts and a shirt, though the term can include jumpers, one-piece bathing suits, and clubwear fashions to name a few." (Wikipedia Encyclopedia)  At one point in time, the romper was a garment for boys in France.  Little did the French know, the romper would gain tremendous popularity among women and children in America.

It originally appeared in the United States in the early 1900's as a popular outfit that children would wear out to play.  It was easy to wear, and to put on.  Two positive attributes that are still prevalent with the particular item today.  The romper disappeared from the Fashion scene for quite a few decades and made a brilliant comeback at the Mercedes Benz Spring 2009 Fashion Week. Since then, rompers have been increasing in popularity as designers have been experiementing with different fabrics and shapes to enhance the female form.  Now, celebrities, among others have been seen sporting the romper on all different types occasions including red carpet events.

Due to the fact that this special wardrobe staple is so versatile, it is important to play them up in more ways than one.  Get creative with your wardrobe and accessorize these to fit any occasion this summer.  Here are a few ways that might help you spark some ideas.

Blush Hues Romantic Playsuit Collection

Featured in this set that I put together, there is a Sandro Ruffled Satin-Twill jumpsuit priced at $310. However if this isn't so much your style, try a shorter length leg or maybe something with a little less sleeve.  Either way, dress up this black suit for evening by playing up the ruffles with feminine colors such as blush pinks and nudes.  Rose Gold is a great accent color against the black satin. Beads are a great way to keep it more formal but still playful.  Do a wedged or platform heel that adds some height to the leg.
Bronze/Gold Hues Romper Done Right

In this set featured is a short, sleeveless khaki zip front romper by Topshop available for $80. This would most likely be used as a day outfit, however it can be transitional into the evening if worn with the right accessories.  However for a simple day outfit, pair with boots like these or substitute in some gladiator sandals for added comfort.  Go light on the make up; bronze hues are always a must. The accessories I featured in this set give more of a playful appeal to the romper, all of which is perfect for those humid days that you still want to look fashionable.

Darkness Dark Color Hue Romper

This set is a bit edgier than the other two looks: for those readers who aren't afraid to take a risk and play up the look.  (Although, I do recommend all people to try at least once in a while) This romper is a short, 3/4 length lace sleeve style that can transition from day through the evening.  Dare to be bold and choose some platform shoes like these Jeffrey Campbell leopard Smudge Fur boots available for $170, for added originality to the outfit.  Go easy on the eye make up but go wild with the lip color.  Rouge, and reds are a classic against the black and animal print. Hot Pink lip color is a trend this season as well, my personal favorite is "Funny Face" by NARS cosmetics, if you're looking for a substitute to the red. Dare to be really edgy and add in some studded jewelry and chains for added affect.  You are sure to catch some stares in this edgy ensemble.
Dressy Blacks and Golds Romper Collection

This set features a sexy sheer short romper by Christian Cota. The heels can be substituted for some dressy sandals.  An oversized tote is essential in order to balance out the shortness of the romper. Gold jewels, big sunglasses, and an oversized hat ought to do the trick in the way of accessorizing this piece.  Simply because the chiffon and jersey fabrics together give enough dimension to the outfit in itself.
