Out Of Print

Do you ever miss holding an actual book in your hands to read? Do you ever miss looking at the cover of the book to maybe give you a hint of foreshadowing, or to even look at the art? Well, along with cd’s, movies, magazines, and many other things, books have moved into the digital world. Holding the actual product in our hand is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

How are book covers going to be used in the digital age is exactly what Jeffrey Leblanc and Todd Lawton thought of when they came up with the business, Out Of Print.  Jeffrey and Todd were friends growing up in Portland, but not until they were adults did they find each other in New York and come up with the business. It wasn’t easy for Jeffrey and Todd to start putting book covers on t-shirts, they had to do a lot of research to come up with it, and they still do.  They have to go through many phone calls to publishers, authors, and artists for the licensing, and to even find the specific edition of a book cover they want.   Most of the book covers they have chosen are classic reads such as Charlotte’s Web, The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, The Outsiders, A Clockwork Orange, and so much more. Some of the children’s t-shirts that they do not make in adult sizes are so popular with everybody, that they have a high demand for making adult sizes. They are also always open to requests! Besides t-shirts, Out Of Print also sells fleeces, stationary, and also accessories such as tote bags, coasters, and phone cases.

Not only does Out Of Print sell merchandise, but they also give back to the community.  Out Of Print are partners with Books for Africa. Every-time an item is purchased through Out Of Print, a book is donated to a community in need.  Out Of Print is one of the most brilliant business’ I have seen in awhile, their idea is innovative, smart, and will be long-lasting.

What do you think of the business?
