Fashionisto Of the Month
Our fashionisto of the month is a little different this time because hes a fashionisto! Charlieo Vandenbergio is a 23 year old, handsome man who is residing in South Yorkshire, just outside of a city called Sheffield. I had the chance to ask him a few questions.
Describe your personal style.
It’s very dated, but it’s mainly a mix of 70s and 80s new wave. Almost everything I own apart from my jeans is vintage. But I have heard every term possible for my style, Kooky, Kitch and even emo!
Whats on your itunes?
I could talk forever! But I am really into 80s indie like Smiths, Cure, New Order, Joy Division, Kate Bush and American indie bands like Replacements and Flaming Lips. I’ve listened to so much Joni Mitchell recently on my ipod too.
Fashion icons?
Johnny Marr the guitarist from the Smiths is a massive influence on my style, his use of polka dot shirts, skinny jeans and oxford shoes looked amazing, so I copied it for myself.
What do you do on your spare time?
I’m a massive fan of cricket and tennis. I also have a love of silver screen, I love old movie stars like Cary Grant, James Stewart, Katherine Hepburn. I’d love to learn photography one day, I know the basics, but would love proper lessons or something.
School?
I go to Leeds University and study Biology.
Your perfect spring outfit!
English Spring is cold. So black skinny jeans, black leather oxford shoes and an old grampa sweater and of course sunglasses.
How did you start getting into fashion?
Mainly through music and film. I really identify with older times like the 70s and 80s and feel a bit alienated with current culture trends. So dressing from another era like the 70s or 80s is just me letting my creative side out and is also escapism I guess.
