THE ACADEMY AWARDS: HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR TO THE MAX
"The Oscars," or shall we say, The Academy Awards have been a significant honor within the movie making business since May 16, 1929. First held as a brunch at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, a small crowd of 270 people gathered to watch the first 15 Oscar Statues be given to the most successful directors, actors, writers, including all of those involved in the creation process of a motion picture. "An Academy Award is rewarded by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)... to pay recognition to the excellence of professionals in the film industry."
Being that this is the oldest award ceremony present in the media, the Oscars have come a long way since 1929 and today marks the 83rd Annual Academy Award Ceremony. The ceremony continues to bring forth the most anticipated honors to those who produce nothing short of fantastic films. While these honors are important to recognize, so is the class and professionalism that these people bring with them.
Tonight, the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre was flooded with a sea of color and a plethora of fabrics and designs. Hollywood's elite dressed up for this prestigious occasion by wearing all of the most coveted designers' gowns and tux's.
While it is a known fact that regardless of how well someone is dressed on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Joan Rivers will not fail to tear them to shreds by the threads. However, there are a few honorable mentions that should have specific attention directed at how beautiful the outfit of choice was assembled.
Anne Hathaway was truly the "belle of the ball," this evening as Host of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. With more than six outfit changes: Opening the ceremony in a beautifully beaded gown by Givenchy, a custom Tux by Lanvin, and a silver beaded tassel dress by Oscar De La Renta, just to name a few. With just the right amount of sparkle and shine, the timeless pieces are a mere work of art on her fair skin. Each paying attribute to her beautiful features.
A personal favorite, Gwyneth Paltrow glistened down the red carpet in a stunning Calvin Klein liquid shine gown. She left her hair pin straight, paired with just the right accessories. Simple, and chic are the epitome of this look. While performing, Gwyneth was adorned in a Michael Kors ensemble.
Jennifer Hudson was a stunning beauty in her tangerine, atypical, Versace dress. Tonight's oscar winning, Female Actor: Natalie Portman surprised us in a violet Rodarte dress, showing just enough baby bump. Co-star Mila Kunis stuck with the purple theme as well in a Lavender lace and silk gown by Elie Saab's Spring 2011 Collection.
All of these women, alongside many others, dazzled viewers nationwide with their beautiful styles this evening. However there are two that I found to be particularly striking. Mandy Moore posed on the red carpet in a couture Monique Lhuillier Spring 2011 collection glittery ensemble. The dress is truly an example of "wearable art," being that it displayed the right amount of skin versus design ratio, and matched fabulously with Mandy's complexion. Scarlette Johansson cuts it close to best dressed as well with a cabernet colored, lacey Dolce & Gabanna dress. The design of this dress is a classic award show beauty, however it has the modern day cut out detail with an open back. Scarlette wears it perfectly, and it pays tribute to all of her body's curvy attributes. The dress hits her in all of the right places. The color adds a little something to her complexion, and while her hair appears slightly unfinished, it allows the eye to fall onto the spectacular dress that she chose to wear.
There is no better place to show grace and poise in a flattering number, than a night at the Academy Awards. The contrast that this award show has with the Grammy's is inevitable in the perfect degree. The Oscars is a time to pay tribute to the classics. The values and respect that gains recognition once a year, due to the hard work and dedication that talented individuals have put into the motion picture business, that we have all grown to love throughout our years.
